The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has officially announced the registration dates for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2024. According to the public notice published in major dailies, the registration will open from Monday, August 5th, 2024, and will close on Monday, August 19th, 2024.

1. Registration Dates:

  • Opening Date: Monday, August 5th, 2024
  • Closing Date: Monday, August 19th, 2024

 

2. Registration Fee:

  • The registration fee for MDCAT 2024 ( For Exam in Pakistan) is set as Rs. 8,000/-. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid during the registration process.
  • The registration fee for MDCAT 2024 (For International Exam Centers) is set as Rs. 12,000/-. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid during the registration process.

 

Admitting Universities: The PM&DC has designated specific universities as admitting institutions responsible for conducting the MDCAT 2024. These universities will oversee the examination process, including registration, scheduling, and administration of the test. Here are the admitting universities for MDCAT 2024:

 

  1. Khyber Medical University (KMU), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): KMU has been declared the admitting university for KPK. It will handle the centralized admission process for both public and private medical and dental colleges within the province.
  2. University of Health Sciences (UHS), Punjab: UHS will manage the MDCAT for students seeking admission to medical and dental colleges in Punjab.
  3. Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Sindh: DUHS is responsible for conducting the MDCAT for candidates in Sindh.
  4. Boland University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS), Balochistan: BUMHS will oversee the MDCAT for students in Balochistan.
  5. Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), Islamabad: SZABMU will manage the MDCAT for candidates in the Islamabad Capital Territory.
  6. Karakoram International University Gilgit (KIU): KIU is designated for conducting the MDCAT for students in that region.

 

How to Register?

  1. Online Registration:
    • Candidates must visit the official PM&DC website or the respective admitting university’s website to complete the online registration form.
    • Fill in all required personal and academic information accurately.
    • Upload necessary documents, including a recent passport-sized photograph, CNIC/B-Form, and educational certificates.
  2. Payment of Fee:
    • Pay the registration fee of PKR 8,000 through the provided payment methods. Payment can typically be made via bank challan, online banking, or other specified channels.
  3. Confirmation:
    • After successful registration and payment, candidates will receive a confirmation email or message with their registration details and further instructions.

About our MBBS program:

MBBS at first sight

Khyber Medical College offers a 5-years degree program of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) that is recognized by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) and is affiliated with Khyber Medical University. So far, the MBBS course was following the traditional archaic curriculum based on Flexner`s report (1913), but has been converted to an integrated one following the Harden`s integration ladder level-7 from year 2017-18. Though KMU is implementing the integrated curriculum gradually, the MBBS program in KMC is going to be fully modular in all years from this academic year.

The 5 years of training is based on preclinical years of training (year 1 and 2) consisting of a syllabus covering mostly basic medical sciences subjects, while the clinical subjects are covered in year 3 and onwards. PRIME module, consisting of teaching Professionalism, Research, professional Identity formation, Management and Leadership, and Ethics, runs from year 1 through year 5. This module was started to inculcate leadership, management, health research, communication skills and ethics in exiting doctors as proposed in the 7 star competencies for doctors by PM&DC. Islamic studies and Pakistan studies are covered in the first 2 years and are assessed at the end of year 2.

This graduate program is different from other MBBS programs in the province in many respects with integration in all years, a clinical clerkship program in year 5, state of the art laboratories, skills and simulation laboratory, and adequate facilities for dissection of cadavers to say a few.

The students learn leadership qualities by taking part in different activities in the college like sports, literary activities, social welfare and others. Students are engaged in college matters especially curriculum development, curriculum management and evaluation, and their feedback remains a very important tool for bringing improvement in academics and administrative matters. Students Council is now a reality where students exchange ideas and challenges facing them in the college and hostels with the administrative staff on monthly basis. The college has SOPs for electives for availing this opportunity inside the country and abroad.

The first choice of students still remains to be KMC. Entry into this institute is the dream of every student who intends to enter a medical school. The top-rated students in the province get admission in KMC and the institute pays back in the form of making them highly rated medical professionals where they remain assets for the country in general and this institution in particular.

Applying for admission in KMC into MBBS Degree Program:

Previously KMC was the centre of applying for new inductions into all public sector medical colleges of the province. Since 2018, Khyber Medical University (KMU) has been given the task of centralized induction into medical colleges. Students from inside the country and abroad. Candidates who have appeared and qualified the NMDCAT test organizzed by Pakistan Medical Commission shall apply to KMU for entry into medical colleges giving options for the colleges of their choice. The KMU, after preparing a merit list, places the students in respective colleges based on the choices cum merit of students. In fact, the top merit listed students opt for KMC.
